Canada Flag Waving Gas Busters Canada Flag Waving

Nov 27/99

Today there was a demonstration up in Orillia at the Petro-Can at 2 Colbourne St. We had eight sign holders and handed out lots of flyers. The people in Orillia gave us tons of support. Best estimate, only 8 people crossed the picket lines, we gave them flyers on the way out and explained why Petro-Canada and what we are working towards. It is important that even if you don't care about the price of gas because your company re-imburses you or you are rich enough to choose convenience, that you join us. If the ecomony turns downward strongly, is that good for your investments and/or income, job security? We all need each other. YOU, Petro-Can employees join us, its your future too and your relatives and your kids we are fighting for.

Nov 24/99 - Boy can alot change in a week. In the last week I was on CBC Radio, interviewed by Canadian Press, Winnepeg Sun, booked on 3 Radio shows - live as guest speaker, interviewed by Southam News, Quoted everywhere and now we have a new goal and this is where we are heading. Today I made first contact with CAA, with 1.7 million members they have a vested interest in finding solutions and becoming pro-active with us.

The oil companies insist they must charge us more because OPEC raised the world prices. Right! I am going to lobby for Canadians to be charged no more then $12.80US$ a barrel for our own oil. All along I have asked for a Made In Canada Price. Talk to your MP and ask for a freeze and a roll back on Canadian CRUDE. We own the oil under the ground, REMEMBER? Everyone put a Boycott sign in their windows. Newpapers please reproduce our poster from this web sight, print it in your paper and get it to your readers to cut out and post it in their windows. we are gaining momemtum but we have a long way to go. Visibility is important. This weekend so far I am co-ordinating 3 pickets, that is nothing, come on people get out of your easy chair and help us. I want to see a hundred pickets this weekend!!! Call me at 800-661-2631 and I will help.

Nov 17/99 Congradulations to local MP Joe Tascona for being named co-chair to the new task force reporting the Federal Gov't. It has the appearance of, we are moving ahead here. Are they listening? So what happens if the gov't accepts that shareholders rights come first and gas companies have the right to a non-made in Canada price because OPEC says HEY, we're charging $25.00 a barrel, why don't you. I think the only way we will ever get made in Canada prices is to keep the pressure on Petro-Canada for a made in Canada price. Let the people decide. Listen to Talk 640 at 5:30pm I am on the Marshal Silver show regarding gas prices and for comment regarding the new task force.

Nov 16/99 - Today we are gathering steam in leaps and bounds. I received my first cycled email, one that is a floater. These literally have the potential to reach millions across North America and make Petro-Can a Cnadian joke. I didn't it. The public is pitching in. I have been contacted to go on at least two major talk shows, one is national. I learned there is a huge Petro-Can across the border. We have added that to our list of targets. Also this morning I was awakened by the president of some Automobile association wishing to co-ordinate with us. A local radio station agreed to donate tons of giveaways for our next local rally and may even do a live coverage as well.

In the Toronto Sun http://www.canoe.com/MoneyColumnsLeatherdale/nov12_leatherdale.html ,

we got excellent coverage in the Money Column written by Linda Leatherdale.

Press Released - November 11, 1999

Dan McTeague, Linda Leatherdale, Rob Smith & Wally Moran gear up for Saturday Petro-Canada Rally, Toronto — Confirmed!

Now Toronto has a chance to get behind this boycott, which is promising to be the largest demonstration since the boycott was launched Oct 16th. Starting at 11:00am(til 1:00pm) at the Petro-Canada station just north of Yonge and 401. The public are invited to come by, show their support and meet their allies in the war against high gas prices.

These main supporters in the fight for lower prices are all planning on being there. Dan McTeague has been leading the fight (for years) by informing the public of the real facts relating to pricing. Rob Smith is pushing Petro-Canada (by way of boycott) to abandon profits for stockholders and give Canadians what we thought our tax dollars were being used for initially... ."a made in Canada Price" Smith says "We all have one goal in common, lower pump prices for everyone." The boycott is Ontario wide but Smith hopes it will spread from shore to shore. He vows not to give up even if it takes years and erodes Petro-Canada market share to ½ what it is today. Linda Leatherdale is known for her constant & ongoing battling the high gas prices and badgering the majors via her "Money" column in the Toronto Star. Wally Moran has been working with Rob Smith and on his own since July this year trying to bring higher visibility to the gasoline price rip off. This is an event you won't want to miss!! The public are encouraged to display a boycott Petro-Can sign and may print one off the internet found at www.gasbusters.net

Our goal -- 52.9 or bust

The actual demonstration will start around 11:00pm and end around 1:00pm."We chose this location because it's company owned and centrally located," says Smith. The public is invited out to show support. . A number of personalities will be there, including Dr. Computer Logick founder of the movement. We meet at 169 Bayfield St at 9:00 am and head for the big smoke around 9:30am. If you can join us, email me or call so we can expect you. We will be car pooling so all are welcome. November 3/99 - Today we officially notified Petro-Can that if our target of 54.9 is not resolved by weeks end that we are lowering the target price to 52.9. Personally I like that price better. The harder they make it, the more its gonna hurt when we the people have spoken. Make sure you print your sign and display it prominently in your car & or store window. Your support is important to us all. We want a "made in Canada" Price not a "made in Asia" (OPEC) price! Please email or tell all friends about this site, lets all become involved.

November 2/99 - Today on this site we made boycott signs for windows, printable off the web site to increase visibilty in support of the boycott. Print yours today! Also, anybody with a web site, you may link to directly to this site from your web pages. www.gasbusters.net/boycott.htm

October 30/99 - Today 5 of us picketted Petro_Canada in Newmarket. we spent about 2 hours on Yonge St., marched back and forth talked to ex-customers on their way out. We also handed out a couple of hundred flyers and were seen by 1000's of passing motroists many of whom honked their horns in support. If we could get 500 or 600 people across Ontario to do the same every weekend soon every one in Ontario would be aware of the boycott and could choose to support it. Picket a station near you.

October 26/99 - Today Petro-Canada was notified of our intent to picket the main terminal and disrupt the flow of gasoline to their stations and/or independants. . Our target of 54.9 has not been met at the time of theis writing.

October 21/99 -

Visibilty is everything. People are starting to organize mini demostrations in their town. I will assist where possible. Gas prices have dropped significantly but not enough. 54.9 or bust. Anyone who can help please email me to co-ordinate.

Press Release - Re: Ontario Wide Gas Boycott - October 18, 1999

Further Gas Boycott Action -Phase 2. Using the Internet to increase awareness

On Saturday October 16/99 Rob Smith (of www.gasbusters.net)lead and launched an all out assault to boycott Petro-Canada Ontario wide! Using a media release and a crew of 13 they converged on the most visible Petro-Canada location in Barrie (at Cundles) and marched back and forth handing out flyers and brandishing picket signs. Wally Moran of " Reduce Gas Pains" was on hand and extremely helpful in making the launch a total success.

The goal of the boycott is:

* to stablilize prices at 54.9 cents a litre or less. Do not buy gas from any Petro-Can unless it is 54.9 or lower. If they drop to break the boycott, that's okay, but if they go back up, the boycott is still in affect.

* raise public awareness of how much fuel we waste and encourage people to target a 50% reduction in gasoline consumption during the boycott so the other don't reap winfall profits during this time (where possible). Carpool, walk, bike, bus, whatever you can do.

* reduce some of the massive profits being realized by the crude production industry in Canada, due to OPEC setting world prices. We must realize that the cost of producing a barrel of crude hasn't changed, just what they are charging themselves on paper for it, and to satisfy shareholders. The longer we boycott the longer it will take them to get back in the public's good graces. It is hard to gain back market share when you kissed it off.

* I can really use some volunteers to meet me in Toronto to do some picketing for about a week from a command centre over a 24 hour clock. That will be a planned phase 3. I still need a motor home for that purpose. We are making history here and I am not backing down. If they take too long I will lower the demands to 52.9 or if crude drops in the meantime. It's gonna have to hurt.

* Also, anyone reading this feel free to make up some picket signs and get together with 2 or 3 friends and do a shift of 2 hours at any Petro-Can station in Ontario. Let me know when and where so I can alert the media of your intentions this will raise public awareness visually and get more media support. I will email you a flyer for distribution as well. E-Mail me at rcsmith@drlogick.com

* So far all the money for the this is from my pocket and it is getting thin. We have had lots of volunteers as well and I appreciate everything everyone of you is doing. We have had some sponsors and I appreciate your contributions as well. Time to ask the public to chip in, we need money.

.....if you would send $20.00 or more (cash or check) it would help.

To: Rob Smith.......... Receipts will be given on request.

In addition to what I have already spent doing this over the last 4 months, taking a week off will cost me in the neighborhood of $40,000.00 in sales. If I can make this sacrifice surely you can pitch in and help. I live where I work so I don't even need gas to make my living. Think about it and do whatever you feel is worthwhile, everything is appreciated.
